Trauma Therapy
Trauma-Informed Therapy in Ontario
Trauma can come from a single event, such as an accident or an assault, or from experiences that built up over time. Its effects can linger long afterwards: nightmares, feeling on edge, numbness, sudden waves of emotion, trouble trusting others, or a sense that you're not yourself anymore. These are common responses to overwhelming experiences, not signs that something is wrong with you.
Our clinicians take a trauma-informed approach. You set the pace, you decide what you share and when, and we focus first on helping you feel safe and steady. You won't be pushed to retell your story before you're ready.
Depending on your needs and your clinician, therapy may include grounding and coping skills, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy. Together, we work on easing the symptoms that affect your daily life and making sense of what happened, so it has less hold on your present.
Sessions are available by video or telephone across Ontario, in person in St. Catharines, and in your home in Niagara, subject to clinician availability. We are a registered provider for WSIB and Veterans Affairs Canada, and most extended health benefit plans cover our services.
If you're thinking about trauma therapy, book a free 20-minute consultation or use our therapist-matching form, and we'll help you find a clinician who fits.
